The Polyfest Trust are once again proud to partner with the Ministry of Education for this years ASB Polyfest Pacific Speech Competitions held on Wednesday 18 March and Thursday 19 March. Each year we have a growing number of young people taking to the stage for speech competition which is really encouraging for the continuation of these languages. Speech competitions take place on Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa and Tonga stages with the addition of two new segments for 2020.
Strategic Partners Ministry of Education are excited to announce the addition of Pacific Realm Nation Tokelau to the Speech Competition for 2020. As New Zealand citizens, Tokelauans make up 2.4 percent of Aotearoa’s Pacific Population. With nearly three quarters of Tokelauans now born in New Zealand, using and promoting the language amongst the Youth in Aotearoa is more important than ever. The Ministry of Education are committed to ensuring that Pacific learners and their families have their languages, identities and cultures respected.
In addition to Tokelau we have also included Impromptu Speech competition for Teachers. We believe this will be a wonderful opportunity for teachers to showcase their abilities and stand in the shoes of our young people who bravely and confidently compete in Speech competition each year.
