We are proud to present this year's Speech Competition topics: 

Juniors - Year 9 and 10

 

  • To teach me you must understand me

    This is an opportunity to hear student voice about what makes a difference and how they want their identity, language and culture visible and embedded in their learning. What connects students to their teachers and their schools.


       a. How does knowing my identity, language and culture support and advance my learning?

       b. My ideal teacher would be…

  • The future of New Zealand depends on me

       This topic is an opportunity for young people to consider their contribution to the future and to discuss what kind           of future they want to live in.

       a. How can the parents, families, communities and schools, work together to help me be a good NZ citizen?
       b. The future of New Zealand depends on me to...         

 

Seniors - Years 11-13

 

  • What opportunities are there in school to support life-long learning?


       This topic is an opportunity for students and supporters to really consider what it’s like being a student and new             opportunities that schools can explore to support students. We are keen to hear student voice about things that               support and/or hinder learning in school. Please consider one or more of the following ideas in formulating your

       speech;


       Challenges and opportunities in;
       a. Student health & wellbeing
       b. Language, Culture and Identity
       c. Parent, families and community engagement and participation

 

  • The future is my inheritance

       The future belongs to our young people and this topic is an opportunity for students and supporters to really

       consider the future they desire. How do you see yourself in the future? What kind of future do you want for your

       life and the people you love? We are keen to hear student voice about how education can support you build the

       future you desire. Please consider one or more of the following ideas in formulating your speech;


       a. A successful future (what does this look like for you)
       b. What role does education play in achieving a successful future
       c. Language, Culture and Identity (what does this look like for you in the future)
